Camping out!

Real men camp...! *ducks for cover* Ok...I was just being silly...everyone can camp! But I love to go camping...and luckily, so do my mom and dad. I know I haven't been blogging lately, so I'm gonna make up for it today! We went camping this weekend! Dirty, stinky, sweaty (for the people) camping! And I've got pictures!

Mom and dad like to go south of Columbus to a state forest that has backpacking trails. A plus about this place (for them anyway) is that at the campsites there is a spigget with water. I guess they don't like carrying in a bunch of water. And right now in Columbus, there is like nooooo water. The grass is even all crunchy and brown!

Anyways! We set off Saturday morning...me in my car seatbelt, and mom and dad in their camping gear. When we got there, mom made dad and me pose for a picture...how uncamper like!

I'm the one on the right...haha. As you can see, my tongue is hanging out and I am paying no attention to mom or dad at all. There was obviously something small and fast to the right in this picture and I am focused on that. Who needs mom or dad when I can catch my own dinner?

Well, mom wanted a close-up so you can all see my camping pack.

They put all of my stuff in my pack...just like a real camper! I've got my food, my frisbee, my collapsable bowl, and a rawhide. But I gotta tell ya, i don't wanna chew the rawhide, I'd rather eat ants out of the dirt...but more on that later. As you can see I am styling in my bright orange collar. Mom says that's so people don't mistake me for something to shoot at...who would shoot at me? Anyway, safety first!

So, we started to hike in! It was 6 miles to the campsite....and we were on our way. Here I am, leading the way.

There, that gives you a side view of my big-dog backpack too! I don't want you to think my mom and dad are loading up my pack and dragging me through the woods. It was only a few pounds at most and I stayed way ahead the whole way, running back to see what was taking them so long to catch up. And I have to say...I was sooooooo good for the first 4 miles or so. I had just a 6 foot leash dragging and I never left the trail. Well, that gets BORING after 4 miles...so all of a sudden I took off down a cliff and into a gulley. Mom and dad could only wait and listen. They're not as agile as me...they would have fallen way down the steep hill and into the gulley and not been able to get back up. Well, I was on a beat man...I was chasing something small, furry and fast. I can't be expected to stop at a moments notice because mom and dad are worried. Anyways...I came back, because I always come back...but from then on, I had on the 20 foot rope and no more getting ahead for me :-( I was super bummed!

Well, now we are at the campsite. Mom and dad put up the tent and got firewood while I supervised. And as supervisor, I get one hotdog!

Mom says to not pay attention to her fat white legs. Pay attention to me! Mom cooked that hotdog on the fire and I popped that baby in my mouth. No chewing for me! Right down the hatch!

Now, I consider myself a connessieur of rare delicacies. Any of the creepy-crawleys...spiders, bees, flies, moths and ants. Ants were my specialty this weekend. They were EVERYWHERE! I would be lying in the dirt...minding my own business...and they would scurry by. And LICK! I would just lick up a big mouthful of dirt and get like 3 or 4 at a time! I guess I looked pretty funny...dirt on my tongue and dirt all over my face...but yummo!

I even got to sleep in the tent with mom and dad! I loved that. I stretched right out between them and mom hugged me all night. hehe...she hugged me, not dad, all night! I was on high alert for bears, cougars and other beasties of the night. Gotta protect the family! Well, we packed up and left by 7am to hike out. I was still on my long rope and not allowed to run far ahead because I was bad the day before. Sheesh...no fun! When we got back, they loaded me in the car, and we stopped at McDonalds...I got a hash brown! Yummo! I dunno what's better racing ahead on the trail or getting a hashbrown.

I was soooooo dirty mom decided I would be hosed down on the back deck. How humiliating...shivering for all the world to see.

And there I am all clean! In the house, ready for a long nap! Hope you enjoyed reading about and seeing my weekend! Did any of you guys do fun stuff with your people this weekend?? Anyone eat some bugs??

Lots of love,
Rosco
